G-A roundup: Girls hoops picks up victory over Gettysburg

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Greencastle-Antrim 63, Gettysburg 51: The Blue Devils absorbed several runs by the Warriors to keep the lead and extended it late to post a Mid Penn Colonial victory on Friday night.

On senior night, seniors Shaina Overcash, Meadow Gambacurta, Lexi Nelson and Brooke Guthrie helped G-A to a 17-14 lead after one. In the second and third periods, G-A (8-10, 6-6 MPC) increased its lead, but Gettysburg (5-14, 3-10 MPC) battled back to keep it close.

Kiersten Swain led Greencastle, which had its highest point total of the season, with 15 points. Liv Carey also reached double figures with 12 and was matched by Sophie Fries.

Fries also brought down 12 rebounds, Ellie Bigler had 11, and Guthrie added 6, while Ellie Bigler contributed 5 assists.

For the Warriors, Isabella Sites scored 15 points.

Gettysburg 50, Greencastle-Antrim 35: The Blue Devils suffered a key loss early in the game and could not recover in a Mid Penn Colonial defeat to the Warriors on the road Friday night.

G-A’s leading scorer, Carter McCauley, went down in the first period with an injury to his leg and did not return.

Greencastle (7-11, 5-7 MPC) was still in the game through 3 quarters, trailing by just 5 points. But Gettysburg (4-14, 3-9 MPC) outscored its opponent 18-8 in the final period, making 7 of 8 free throws. The Warriors hit 11 of 13 at the line in the game, while Greencastle made just 6 of 15.

Alex Albright led G-A with 13 points, but nobody else scored more than 6.

For Gettysburg, Kayson Johnson scored 14 of his 16 points in the second half and Charlie Shull added 11.

Northeastern 27, Greencastle-Antrim 15: The Bobcats won in 4 of the 5 bouts that were wrestled and earned a non-league victory over the Blue Devils on Friday evening.

The win for Greencastle (1-5) came at 142 pounds, where Aliyah Masser fashioned a 6-2 decision over Northeastern’s Alyssa Nolte.

Rowan Shubert (118) and Rachael Graham (148) won bouts by forfeit for the Blue Devils.
