CRESAPTOWN, Md. — The Cumberland Valley Christian Blazers bolted to an early lead and went on to defeat Calvary Christian 48-12 Thursday evening in a Mason Dixon Christian Conference girls basketball game.
The Blazers (9-7, 5-3 MDCC) had lost three straight games coming into this game, but they jumped ahead quickly and led 12-2 at the end of the first quarter. They expanded the margin to 22-7 at halftime and sealed things by outscoring the Eagles 14-1 in the third period.
Addison Teal scored 16 points to lead the Blazers. Chloe Smith and Makenna Morris, who had missed several weeks with a shoulder injury, scored seven points each. Kaitlyn Garvin scored six points, Brielle Gleason popped in four points, and Peyton Bricker, Reagan Witmer, C.C. Hott and Olivia Coccagna each added two points.
“After a tough few games, we needed to get ourselves going early, and we did that by forcing turnovers and getting out in transition,” Blazers coach Corey Collins said. “Addison keyed us on the offensive end scoring and setting her teammates up for easy buckets. Kaitlyn’s defensive energy was contagious and spread to the whole team. Having Makenna come back from injury was a huge spark for us.”
In other stats, Teal completed her double-double with 12 rebounds and picked off five steals, Garvin provided team highs with six steals and four assists, Witmer had 10 rebounds, Smith pulled eight rebounds, and Gleason added six rebounds.
