Chambersburg roundup: CD hands Trojans 2nd straight defeat

BOYS BASKETBALL
Central Dauphin 59, Chambersburg 48: The Rams outscored the Trojans 34-21 in the second half and managed a season sweep of the series by taking the Mid Penn Commonwealth victory Wednesday night in Linglestown.

Colton Cornwell

Chambersburg (11-4, 7-3 MPC), which lost its second straight game, had too many turnovers in the third period, when CD changed a 2-point halftime deficit into a 6-point lead.

“Our fight was there for much of the game, but we didn’t play very cleanly and lacked poise at bigger moments of the game,” Trojan coach Shawn Shreffler said. Too many turnovers led to easy baskets for them.”

J.J. Kelly led Chambersburg with 22 points, but he scored only 3 in the second half. Landon Buhrman was the only other Trojan in double figures with 10 and Colton Cornwell added 9.

For the Rams (14-3, 9-1 MPC), Wayne Fletcher II tossed in 29, including 9 in the third period and 12 in the fourth.

Shreffler said, “Whenever we got close in the fourth, Fletcher would hit free throws or hit a big shot to lengthen the lead. We also fought a lot of foul trouble, which contributed to our lack of execution at both ends of the court.”

“We still have lots to play for, and many more opportunities to improve, continuing tomorrow at practice.”

The teams combined to make 24 of 34 free throws, with CD getting 16 of its 20 foul shots in the latter half.
