McConnellsburg Falls to Shalom Christian

Shalom 45 McConnellsburg 36:.  The Lady Spartans traveled to Shalom Christian Academy to face the Lady Flames for a non-conference game Monday, January 13nd and faced a challenging opponent, fell behind early, and ended up short for the loss.

Missing Emily Rebok due to illness, the Flames relied on standout performances from Maya Lehman and Addison Adams to fill the gap. Lehman contributed 16 points, 9 rebounds, and 7 steals, while Adams led the team with 17 points and 7 assists.

Adams and Lehman had strong support from their teammates. Kaitlyn Thomas, despite picking up her fourth foul early in the third quarter, managed 6 points and 5 rebounds. Chloe Diller stepped up in Thomas’s absence, grabbing 4 crucial rebounds in the second half. Julianna Myers continued her stellar defensive play and handled additional ball-handling duties with poise. Sydney Moore, who earned a starting spot, added 4 points and played excellent defense on multiple McConnellsburg players. Chloe Gearhart also provided valuable minutes.

Junior guard Serenity Rengifo led the Spartans (9-4 overall, 1-0 ICC South) with 13 points, and senior center Maggie Mellott led all rebounding with a season-high 19.

The Flames won the first quarter and led 13-8.  They won the second and third quarters by just three and two points, respectively, and to start the last quarter, they held a double-digit lead.  The Spartans then outscored the Flames by a point, but the recovery effort ran short, having given up more turnovers and two starters that fouled out.  The Flames were also in foul trouble with three starters, four personals, and almost as many team turnovers but managed to hold the lead and victory.
