Chambersburg roundup: Girls wrestling team improves vs. ‘Boro

GIRLS WRESTLING
Waynesboro 33 , Chambersburg 30: The Trojans showed improvement compared to an earlier result against the Maidens in a Mid Penn Conference meet on Monday night in Waynesboro.

Lillybeth Alcantaras

In Chambersburg’s first-ever match in December, Waynesboro took a 36-18 win. This time, the Trojans got a key pin and another wrestler avoided a pin, which made the score a lot closer.

“What a great rematch,” Chambersburg coach Josh Sherman said. “The two key matches were at 136 and 190. At 136, freshman Alba Rojas earned her first contested varsity win in style, pinning her opponent (Marianna Raleigh, in 36 seconds).

At 190, the Maidens’ Kenadee Shockey, who had a 9-2 record, won a 9-2 decision over Lillybeth Alcantaras, but in the first match she had pinned Alcantaras in the first period. Alcantaras even closed the scoring with a third-period reversal.

Sherman said, “I told Lillybeth that fighting and not giving up a pin in her match showed a lot of toughness.”

The rest of the Chambersburg points came via four forfeits. Waynesboro (4-0) got pins from Keeley Pryor at 112 and Annabelle Tracey at 142 and had 3 forfeit wins.
