Trojans sit in 1st place in tourney: Chambersburg leads the team standings in the Southern Tier Memorial Tournament after one day of wrestling in Elmira, N.Y.

The Trojans scored 121.5 points and lead Bellefonte (111), Penns Valley (99.5) and Horseheads, N.Y. (92).

Chambersburg advanced 5 wrestlers to Saturday’s semifinals — Zach Sherman at 124 pounds, Ashton Romberger at 138, Logan Mickey at 152, Omar Henchey at 215 and Frank Barrientos at 285. Romberger (4), Barrientos (3) and Sherman (2) have had all pins so far.

Cristofer Mendez (101), Isaac Brambley (108) and Cody Seabolt (116) all reached the quarterfinals before losing, and are now in the consolation round.

Also alive in the consy rounds are Trojans Isaiah Tasker at 172, Jaccob Stoner at 190 and Chris Wilkerson at 190.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Carlisle 52, Chambersburg 45: Riley Evans did about all she could, but the Trojans fell short against the Thundering Herd in a Mid Penn Commonwealth game Friday night at CASHS Field House.

Evans scored a career-high 24 points, more than half of Chambersburg’s total, and also yanked down 22 rebounds. Tori Price was next with 7 points.

Trojan coach Jamiur King said, “Riley kept us in the game with her scoring and rebounding. Selena Warren’s energy and tempo allowed us to stay close. But we struggled to gather back-to-back defensive stops, and Carlisle did a great job answering on offense.”

Chambersburg, which is 2-9 (1-6 MPC) and has dropped 8 straight, was without leading scorer Maddie Mills. Carlisle (4-6, 3-4 MPC), got 19 point from Sadie McMeekin.
