BOYS WRESTLING
Chambersburg 40, West Perry 28: The Trojans earned a pair of narrow victories in key bouts and added several important pins to hand once-beaten West Perry a non-league defeat Saturday night in Elliottsburg.

The Mustangs (9-2) led 28-20 with four matches left, but the Trojans (4-1) racked up wins in all four of them for the victory.

The run started at 285 when Frank Barrientos, tied 1-1 in regulation with state-ranked Quade Boden, connected on a takedown to win 4-1 in sudden victory.

Then the lightweights sewed it up, with Isaac Brambley taking a technical fall at 107, and Cody Seabolt (114) and Brayan Gonzalez (121) notching pins.

Logan Mickey took the other tight win, beating Aiden Shepard 1-0 via a third-period escape at 152. Ashton Romberger (145) and Chris Wilkerson (189) grabbed pins for Chambersburg and Zach Sherman put up a tech fall.

Trojan coach Matt Mentzer said, “It was a good dual meet between two pretty good teams. Mickey had a huge decision and Barrientos took out a state-ranked kid to put our lightweights in position to win at the end.

“Wilkerson and Seabolt got key falls when we needed them. (Isaiah) Tasker had a great effort against another state-ranked kid. And Gonzalez came up huge in a big spot (score was 34-28 at the time) to get his first career win.”

GIRLS WRESTLING
Chambersburg 35, West Perry 15: Only two matches were wrestled in a Mid Penn match (the rest were forfeits) Saturday night and the Trojans and Mustangs each won one of them. Chambersburg won 5 forfeits and West Perry had 2.

“They only had four eligible wrestlers tonight and we could only match up with two of them,” Trojan coach Josh Sherman said.

Chambersburg (2-2) got a technical fall at 106 by Jessica Li, who racked up 5 takedowns in her 21-5 victory.

At 155, the Mustangs’ Marty Morrison bested Mackenzie Miller, 4-1, with a late takedown the difference. Miller had beaten Morrison in the Big Spring tournament final earlier.

Sherman said, “It was a good rematch. It was 1-1 late when Miller was pushing for a takedown. But she slipped and Morrison was able to hit a go-behind for the decisive takedown.”

DIVING
Trojans compete in event: Chambersburg sent 6 divers to the South Western Invitational on Saturday and 3 of them placed in the top 10.

Nolan Diehl

In the boys competition, Keagan Myers scored 375.90 to capture third place. Spring Grove’s Elijah Henning won with 399.20. Trojan teammate Nolan Diehl took firth (241.90) and Kruz Swope was 11th with 129.70.

Chambersburg diving coach Heather Brindle said, “Keagan had a great day, and was very consistent throughout the entire meet, with all 11 dives performed cleanly. His forward 1 1/2 pike and inward dive pike were beautiful and earned high scores from the judges. Aside from one missed dive, Nolan had a nice meet, too.”

For the girls, Addison Zimmerman placed ninth with 276 points. Ada Velasquez (245.20) took 13th and Lillian Johnson placed 16th with 215.

“Addison had a great meet, but one mistake on a dive took her out of the top 6,” Brindle said. “Ada is a new diver and I was proud of her for performing two new dives. All of our divers are working hard and performed well for this early in the season.”
