CHAMBERSBURG — The host Chambersburg wrestling team produced three placewinners, scored a raft of bonus points and finished fourth in the 10th annual MyHOUSE Trojan Wars tournament at CASHS Field House on Sunday.
The event included 47 varsity teams from five states, and 34 middle school teams.
Chambersburg had one third-place finish (Zach Sherman at 127), one fifth (Frank Barrientos at 285) and one seventh (Cody Seabolt at 114).
Sherman fell 5-2 to defending champion Tanner Guenot of Bald Eagle Area in the semifinals. But he came back to win two tight bouts to take third. He took Dallas Owens of Spring Mills down with just seconds left to secure a 6-2 win in the 3rd-place bout.
Barrientos piled up a 6-2 record, which included pins in all six of his matches, and he scored 25 team points — best on the team. He pinned No. 2 seed Kojo Osafa-Mensah of Washington, WV, in the 5th-place match.
Seabolt won four consolation matches, including a 8-5 win over Becket Geary of St. Mary’s Ryken in the bout for 7th place.
Nine of the 13 Trojan wrestlers won at least three matches in the tournament. They compiled a record of 38-25, which included 22 pins, 6 technical falls and 2 major decisions.
Grassfield, Va. ended up winning the team championship with 162.5 points, over Sun Valley (160).
