McConnellsburg Wins by 23 Over Shalom Christian in Tournament Final

BOYS BASKETBALL
McConnellsburg 54 Shalom Christian 31.  The Spartans faced Shalom Christian Academy Flames for the final championship game of the 51st Fannett-Metal Christmas tournament Saturday, December 29th and with a stifling defense and good field goal percentage overran the Flames with ease to claim the title.

In the first quarter, the Spartans held the Flames scoreless for nearly the first six minutes of play and, after one, led 11-5.  During the first half, the Spartan defense kept the Shalom shooting percentage and quality poor and largely limited to one attempt per possession.  At the half the Spartans held an 11-point lead, 27-16.  In the mid-third quarter, the Spartans pounded away to open up to a 21-point lead and, by quarter’s end, led 50-22.  In the fourth quarter, the Flames attempted a comeback with full-court pressure and quicker shot attempts and did happen to outscore the Spartans, but the effort was too little, too late to flip the lead, with the Spartans easing the closure at 54-31.

This victory brings the Spartans’ (7-1 overall, 1-0 ICC South) season win streak to six straight and sixth this season by twenty-plus points.
