Fannett-Metal (3-3, 2-1 ICC) hosted Everett in an ICC South contest and won on a 3-pointer at the buzzer. The Tigers were down 51-49 and called a timeout with two seconds remaining. Landon Arnold inbounded the ball to Evan Wingert, who turned and made a 3-pointer to give the Tigers the thrilling come-from-behind victory. “I’m really proud of these boys for playing until the final second. They just kept grinding against a good Everett team, and we got the shot to fall at the end to win it”, Coffman said.
The game pitted two evenly matched teams, which was evident by how many times the score was tied throughout. The Warriors went into the half up 26-22. They maintained that lead until the final seconds of the third quarter, when the Tigers’ Broc Hostler knocked down a crucial three-pointer at the buzzer to pull the Tigers to within one point, 38-37.
In the fourth quarter, with under a minute to go, the Tigers were forced to start fouling. The Warriors struggled at the foul line in the final quarter, going 5 for 11, which kept the Tigers within striking distance and allowed the Tigers to get the game-winning shot.
The Tigers put three players in double figures. Evan Wingert led all scorers with 23 points. Landon Arnold scored 16 points and added 7 rebounds. Broc Hostler added 12 points and 5 assists. Gage McClure scored 1 point. For the Warriors, big man Leasure had 16 points, and Whitfield added 10 points.
The Tigers will return to action next week when they host the 51st Annual Fannett-Metal Christmas Tournament on December 27-28. On the first night of action, Mcconnellsburg will host Faith Christian at 6:00, followed by F-M playing Shalom Christian Academy at 7:30.
