Chambersburg 37, Cumberland Valley 32: The Eagles won 6 of 7 bouts in the middle of a Mid Penn Commonwealth dual meet Wednesday night at CV, but the Trojans won the first three, one in the middle and the last three to rally for a 37-32 victory.

Trailing 17-0, Cumberland Valley (0-1, 0-1 MPC) scored 3 pins, two technical falls and a major decision to gain the lead (32-23) after the 145-pound match. The only break in that stretch was a pin in 36 seconds by the Trojans’ Ashton Romberger at 139.

One of those pins came at 127, where Conner Killion pinned the Trojans’ Zach Sherman in the night’s marquee bout between two District 3 contenders. Killion put Sherman in a leg ride and turned him with a power half for the fall to end a scoreless bout.

Chambersburg (3-1, 2-1 MPC) began its rally at 160, with Logan Mickey turning in a major decision, 12-2, over Andrew Ackerman. A takedown-nearfall combo gave him six points in the second period.

Then Isaiah Tasker faced CV’s Owen Prycl and handed him a 14-0 major, which included a 7-point move in the second period, that brought the Trojans to within 32-31. Jaccob Stoner then wasted little time, pinning the Eagles’ Abdul Oumarov in just 1:03 to collect the team win.

“I felt pretty confident with whoever we put out at 160, 172 and 189,” Chambersburg coach Matt Mentzer said. “It was a good place to start the match, and because of that, we were confident we’d have a good finish.”

The Trojans received a forfeit at 215 to Chris Wilkerson to open the meet, Frank Barrientos made quick work of his foe, pinning him in just 15 seconds at 285, and Isaac Brambley piled up a 15-0 tech fall at 107 for the 17-0 lead.

Mentzer said, “Those were two freshmen at 107 and Isaac wrestled a smart match, building the lead as the match went on.”
