MERCERSBURG – The Cumberland Valley Christian Blazers fell behind early and dropped a 77-26 decision to Mercersburg Academy Thursday in a non-league girls basketball game.
Mercersburg rolled to a 24-3 lead at the end of the first period and was ahead 42-7 at halftime. The Blazers (3-3) registered their best scoring quarter in the third – a 12-point output.
Makenna Morris led the Blazers by putting together a double-double – 11 points and 10 rebounds. Addison Teal added nine points and eight rebounds, Kaitlyn Garvin contributed three points, five rebounds and three assists, Reagan Witmer added seven rebounds and one point, and Peyton Bricker scored two points.
“We knew we were going to play a very talented team,” Blazers coach Corey Collins said. “In the first half, Mercersburg’s defense was incredible, and we couldn’t get much going. In the second half, we did start to figure some things out. There were plenty of opportunities for the girls to ‘let go of the rope,’ but they played hard and battled all four quarters.”
