BOYS BASKETBALL
McConnellsburg 66, Cumberland Valley Christian 10: The McConnellsburg Spartans faced a welcoming host Blazer team to open their season in a non-league game Thursday night, and the Spartans took control from the start with a 24-4 lead after just one quarter.
The Spartans’ defense was key, forcing turnovers, making poor and missed shots, and holding the Blazers to just 10 points the entire game. The Blazers’ offense was cold, with several under-the-basket missed shots, ball-handing errors, and scoring opportunities limited to first-shot attempts. There were few second-putback attempts, and the Spartans dominated the rebounding.
