GIRLS SOCCER
Boiling Springs 2, Greencastle-Antrim 0: The Bubblers clinched the Mid Penn Colonial Division title on Tuesday night by shutting out the Blue Devils at Kaley Field.
G-A (11-4-1, 10-2-1 MPC), ranked No. 4 in District 3 Class 3A, needed a win to pass Boiling Springs (15-2, 13-1 MPC), No. 2 in Class 2A, for the division crown.
“Boiling Springs caught us off-guard in the first half,” Greencastle coach Jamie Coy said. “We made some adjustments and were able to shut down No. 22 (Mackenzie Seiber), who scored both of their goals. We’ve had such a stellar defense all season, but injuries have caught up with us. Goalkeeper Lexi Nelson (11 saves) and our backs — Zhen Reuter, Abbie Wolfe, Haley Baker, Anna Sullivan and Addison Kuhanek — led us to many shutouts early in the season.
“We had multiple opportunities in the second half, but sometimes the ball doesn’t bounce your way. Callie Izer had seven shots on goal, but their keeper made some amazing saves.”
FIELD HOCKEY
Chambersburg , Greencastle-Antrim 1: The Blue Devils fell short against the Trojans in their final game of the season Tuesday, a non-league game at Trojan Stadium.
Camryn Guthrie scored the lone goal for Greencastle, which finishes with a 5-12 record. Natalie Medina had carried the ball downfield to set up the goal.
“It wasn’t the outcome we wanted today, but the girls played really hard,” G-A coach Keara Allshouse said. “It has been a great season and I am very proud of the team’s hard work and determination. We had some fantastic passing sequences tonight, but we fell short. I can’t wait to see what next year brings.”
Greencastle goalie Rebecca Jones made 8 saves, while Kelsey Beauchamp and Acacia Long each had a defensive save.
