FIELD HOCKEY
Chambersburg 7, Greencastle-Antrim 1: The Trojans scored the game’s final 6 goals to earn a non-league victory over the Blue Devils at Trojan Stadium on Tuesday evening.
“The girls had a great game tonight, nd I’m really proud of our seniors,” Chambersburg coach Kelsey Baker said. “They’ve been the catalyst in turning out program around — they were at all the summer workouts, Open gyms and went to team camp this summer. They’ve really set an example of what senior leadership looks like.”
Kendall Flory opened the scoring for the Trojans (2-14), on an assist from Jaxin Frazer. Greencastle (5-12) tied the score, but Reagan Barrett gave Chambersburg the lead for good. Frazer and Alex Bender poured in the next two goals, both assisted by Julie Elhajj.
“When they scored to tie it, I thought, ‘OK, girls, how are we going to respond to this?’ Baker said. “We’ve been working all season on that exact situation.”
The final three goals were scored by Frazer, Barrett and Mara Costolo, with Costolo and Frazer credited with assists. Frazer ended up with 2 goals and 2 assists.
Baker said, “The seniors weren’t OK with the status quo and they decided to change it. They very easily could have just gone through motions and had an easy senior year. But they didn’t want to settle for that and they put their heads and hearts into it and it paid off. We’ll certainly miss the class of 2025.”
BOYS SOCCER
State College 3, Chambersburg 2, OT: The Trojans had a 2-0 halftime lead on the road, but ended up losing in overtime to the Little Lions in a Mid Penn Commonwealth game Tuesday night to end their season.
“Tonight was a tough loss,” Chambersburg coach Corey Grove said. “We were up 2-0 and had a penalty kick called against us with 4 minutes left to tie the game. Colton Hunsecker was a game-changer once again, and Izhais Jean had a nice header on a corner kick (for a goal).”
Hunsecker scored the first goal, assisted by Dilynn Fisher, and Jean’s goal was assisted by Hunsecker.
State College led in shots (9-8) and the Trojans, who finished 5-10-2 (3-7-2 MPC), led in corner kicks (5-4).
Grove said, “I’ll continue to reiterate the improvement this team has made since the beginning of the season. We were young and injury-plagued all season, but this group kept fighting until the very end. I’m proud of these boys, even though the results may not show the success we found late in the season.”
