The Shippensburg Greyhounds ran their record to 8-0 with another dominating performance in a 42-0 win over visiting Red Land. Shippensburg thrilled the Homecoming crown with a balanced offensive attack, rushing for 205 and passing for 213, to outgain the Patriots 419-113. It marked the fourth time the Hounds went over 400 yards in a game.
The only blemish for the offense of the Hounds night was losing a fumble at the Patriots 12, but the defense forced a three and out and set the Hounds up at the Red Land 45.
Ja’Nye Statum had runs of 12, 7, 6 and 4 for the score in the drive. The other blemish on the night is the Hounds gave up 134 return yards on kickoffs. Red Land’s special teams outgained their offense by 23 yards.
Red Land drove to the Hounds 20, but a 10-yard holding penalty moved them back. And on fourth down, Chase Piazza’s bold 47-yard field goal landed well short.
No problem for the Hound’s offense, as they ripped off 12 plays to go 80 yards in a little over seven minutes of action. Brady Maciejewki hit Jaden Hines on a crossing route on third down for 12 yards and a first down. Statum’s four-yard run picked up another first down, and Mike Severe, with a rare carry, bolted for 16.

After a short kick was returned to the Shippensburg’s 37, but the defense took over. Hines had a drive-stopping interception in the endzone. On the first play Maciejewski hit Hines on a wheel route up the far sideline for 74 yards, only to be caught by with a diving ankle tackle by Hayden -Reaster. Statum finished it off with a 6-yard run.
The Hounds defense threw the Patriots for a six-yard loss on first and then two incomplete passes to force a punt. Hines again came up big with a block of the punt, and the Hounds recovered at the eight,
Three plays and Statum (TD number 3) banged in from three yards out. Seth Taylor, who was 3-3 in tries to this point, took the direct snap and hit Derek Lynch in the flat for two points and a 29-0 halftime lead.
The Hounds defense forced a three-and-out on the first Red Land possession of the half. Maciejewski hit a wide-open Hines again for a 47-yard strike, finishing off an 80-yard nine-play drive. This put into play the mercy rule with a running clock.
Noah Garvin recovered a fumble on the kick for the Hounds. On third and long, Maciejewski and Hines hooked up again. Hines, on a deep post, got behind the defender and hauled in the 56-yard dime for the game’s last score.
Hines had himself a night, catching five passes for 199 yards and two scores. He added 45 rushing yards and a TD, an interception, and a blocked punt. Hines took home the VFW Offensive Player of the Game. Statum led the Hounds’ ground attack with 93 yards and broke the 1,000-yard mark for the season (1042). Maciejewski hit on 7-9 passes for 213 yards, a career-high for yards.
Garvin took home the defensive award with a fumble recovery, six tackles, and one for a loss.
Next is a trip to Dillsburg to take on Northern York. The Polar Bears (3-5) are coming off a 42-7 loss to Hershey. The next home game is still undefeated Mechanicsburg, which wasa 35-13 winner of Waynesboro in two weeks.
