G-A roundup: Field hockey earns 2-0 victory

Greencastle-Antrim 2, Forbes Road 0: The Blue Devils had plenty of scoring chances and knocked in two of them while the defense shut out Forbes Road in a non-league win Tuesday afternoon on the road.

Abigail Kielek and Natalie Medina scored the goals for Greencastle (2-3), with assists going to Alyanna Gonyea and Jensen Keefer.

G-A coach Keara Allshouse said, “It was a very well-played game in which we dominated possession. We had a lot of great scoring opportunities and capitalized on two of them. The team did a really good job communicating and having purposeful passes today.”

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
Blue Devils sweep home meet: Greencastle-Antrim picked up a pair of Mid Penn Colonial victories on Tuesday afternoon, defeating Big Spring 25-31 and getting by Waynesboro 24-32.

G-A (3-1, 3-1 MPC) put three of the top four runners across the line — Noah Parks won in 17:23, Joel Amstutz was second in 17:30 and Logan Bohrer took fourth in 17:47.

The other scorers for Greencastle were Abric Coy (19:35) in 12th and William Bender in 15th (19:83). Devin Barger took third for Waynesboro in 17:35.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
Greencastle-Antrim gains 1st win: The Blue Devils were defeated by Waynesboro 16-43 on Tuesday as the Maidens put the first 4 runners across the line, but G-A was able to nip Big Spring 27-28 for their first win of the season Tuesday in a home meet.

Morgan Price of Waynesboro ran 21:23 to win the race. For the Blue Devils, Sophia Denlinger was 5th in 24:41, Monica Schemel was 9th in 25:57, and Shalini Maharah was 10th in 26:24.

All three of those runners finished ahead of the Bulldogs” No. 2 runner.

Blue Devils places 3rd: 
Greencastle-Antrim won a tiebreaker against James Buchanan to take third place in a Mid Penn Colonial golf match at Chambersburg Country Club on Tuesday afternoon. Northern won the event by 10 strokes over Shippensburg.

Waynesboro’s Tyler Fortney scored a 1-over -par 74, while Kaydee Beckenbaugh of Shippensburg posted a 76 for second place.

For Greencastle (17-19), Ben Horst shot 82 to tie for 7th place and Camden Eby shot 84 to tie for 11th.

“It was another very solid day for my team, having five guys in the 80’s,” G-A coach Jeremy Eby said. “I really like how my top five or six guys are trending going into postseason play.”

JB’s Abram Stock fired a 78 for fourth place and Taylor Blair shot 84 to tie for 11th for the Rockets (8-28). Ship (28-8) got an 82 by Ben Horgos to tie for seventh and Jack Johnson tied for 9th with an 83.
