Ceagan Truett

Last week: The Trojans defeated Gettysburg 24-17 … The Panthers took down York High, 40-6.
The opponent: East’s best player coming into the season was RB Jared Porter, who had over 1,800 yards last year … But the U. of Delaware recruit hurt his ankle in the first series last week and did not return … His status for this week in unknown … The Panthers turned to a passing game to drill York … QB Damaj Jalloh hit on 13 of 26 passes for 169 yards and a score … WR Santana Young caught 6 passes for 156 yards and a TD … Jerome Ross ran for 64 yards and Leon Parson added 34.
Coach’s view: Chambersburg coach Mark Luther said, “Once Porter went down, they threw a lot of balls up to No. 4 (Young), deep balls on 1-on-1 coverage. That was the difference. On defense, they play a three-man line and try to shoot through the gaps and cause chaos. We have to find a way to get into the seams. We’ve had some close games with them (34-33 OT win last year, 7-0 win the year before) and they’re probably thinking this is a possible win for them. On defense, we did a good job of staying in front of (Gettysburg QB Brady) Heiser last week, and this week we can’t let their quarterback to get out of the pocket. On offense, I liked the fact that we did not turn the ball over — that’s awesome for a first game. And our special teams did some really good things and didn’t make any big mistakes. Plus, in my nine years here, that’s the most physical we’ve played in our first game, and that’s the way we have to be.”
Unsung: Nose tackle Enoch Keith. “After watching the film, we saw that he took on a lot of double teams and held his ground. That kept one guy from getting to our linebackers.”
Stats: Trojan QB Ceagan Truett hit on 8 of 19 passes for 73 yards and ran for 35 yards … Trever Luther caught 4 balls for 66 yards and ran 16 yards for a first down on a fake punt … Imari Watson (103 yards) and Antonio Harrison (48) led an effective running game.

SUSQUEHANNA TWP. AT GREENCASTLE-ANTRIM
Game data: Friday, 7 p.m. at Kaley Field … Mid Penn Colonial game … Live stream on MidPennBroadcasting.com.
Last week: The Blue Devils gave up a touchdown with 8 seconds left and were edged by Waynesboro, 30-27 … The Indians collected a big 36-30 win over WPIAL power Penn Hills.

Mason Gelsinger

The opponent: Susquehanna Township is the overwhelming favorite to win the revamped Colonial Division, having a slew of athletes, experience, size and ridiculous speed … WR Lex Cyrus is a PIAA 100-meter champion and teammate WR Jarrett Kern might even be faster in the 40 … Torin Evans is playing in his 4th year as QB; last week he connected on 18 of 26 passes for 243 yards and 2 TDs … He’s got plenty of weapons … Kerns caught 5 for 93 yards and a score and Cyrus snagged 6 for 72, and returned a kickoff for a touchdown … Xavier Rivera ran for 81 yards a a score.
Coach’s view: Greencastle coach Devin McCauley said, “Susquehanna is a very good football team and that was a big win last week. They are sound on offense and defense and have some electric players. When you game plan against them you know the only thing you can do is try to control the clock, try to get some first downs and shorten the game, kind of like playing four corners in basketball. They went through some lean years, but now they have talent across the board. It’s a real challenge. Last week, our game was full of emotional swings; we were down and never gave up. We scored twice in five minutes to get the lead (27-23 with 1:03 left), then they did a hook-and-ladder play that picked up a big chunk, and then their quarterback (Rashawn Hewitt) scrambled in for a touchdown. If we had tackled him, we could have won, because they had no timeouts left.”
Unsung: G-A lost several O-line players to injuries during the game, and its top two kickers were both unavailable because of injuries. Mason Gelsinger came in to handle the kickoff duties and also made some tackles on special teams.
Stats: WR Carter McCauley made 8 tackles as the safety, plus 2 tackles for loss, and recovered a fumble on a punt. He also caught 9 balls for 161 yards and a TD, did the long snapping and kicked an extra point … QB Sean Marshall was 15 of 21 for 237 yards and 2 TDs and 3 picks … JD Flynn had 7 tackles and 3 for loss.
