Southern Fulton (17-4, 8-0) concluded their regular season with a big win over Southern Huntingdon County 13-3 on Thursday in Warfordsburg.
The Indians got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Jett Burger hit a sacrifice fly to score lead-off batter Ethan Powell. Southern Fulton added on after scoring on a passed ball. Ethan Mellott doubled deep to center field, driving in another run to make it 3-0.
The Indians tacked on another run in the second, thanks to another wild pitch.
The Indians added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning when Mellott hit a deep sacrifice fly, scoring one run, Austin Mann singled, scoring two runs, and Hunter Ward singled, scoring one run.
SF scored five runs on three hits in the bottom of the fifth inning. Hayden Lawrence drew a walk, scoring one run, Paul Hendershot singled, scoring two runs, Burger singled, scoring one run, and Mark Fitz singled, scoring one run to plate the 13th run and ending the 5 inning contest.
Joel Fitz earned the win for the Indians. The right-handed pitcher allowed three hits and two runs over four innings, striking out three and walking four. Gibbons took the loss for Southern Huntingdon County. He went three innings, surrendering eight runs on six hits, striking out four and walking four. Ethan Powell appeared in relief for Southern Fulton Varsity Indians.
Southern Fulton tallied nine hits in the game. Burger and Joel Fitz each collected two hits for Southern Fulton. Mellott, Burger, Hendershot, and Mann each drove in two runs for the Indians. Southern Fulton had patience at the plate, accumulating eight walks for the game. Lawrence, Powell, and Fitz led the team with two walks each.
With the win, the Indians secured the #2 seed in the PIAA District 5 tournament, which starts on Tuesday, May 21. They will host the #7 seed, which has yet to be determined.
