Chambersburg roundup: Baseball, softball lose out to rain

BASEBALL
Chambersburg at Shippensburg: The Greyhounds held a 4-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning when rain halted play. The game will not be made up.

Chambersburg finishes the season with a 6-12 record.

Shippensburg is 15-4 and will begin play in the District 3 Class 5A playoffs on Friday with a home game at 4:30. Pairings are not official, but currently Ship is the No. 6 seed and would host No. 11 Manheim Central.

SOFTBALL
Chambersburg at Central Dauphin: The Trojans and Rams tried to beat the rain in a twice-postponed makeup game Thursday in Harrisburg, but Mother Nature won again. The game was called by the umpires in the fourth inning with CD ahead 4-3.

Chambersburg (15-3) will play at Greencastle-Antrim at 4:15 Friday in another makeup game, but that game won’t count toward District 3 rankings. Therefore, the Trojans will likely be the No. 3 seed for the district tournament.

That would give Chambersburg a first-round bye, and it would host the winner of the first-round game between No. 6 (tentatively Wilson) and No. 11 (tentatively Manheim Township).
