Greencastle-Antrim 10, West Perry 0: The Blue Devils traveled all the way to Elliottsburg on Monday to play the final two innings of a Mid Penn Colonial game vs. the Mustangs that had been suspended for rain last week.
The second straight win for Greencastle (10-8, 7-7 MPC) puts it in position to qualify for the District 3 Class 5A playoffs. The Blue Devils are currently ranked 17th in the district. If they can win Tuesday at East Pennsboro (16-2, the No. 2 ranked team in 4A), it could bump them up to No. 15 and the top 16 qualify. The first round of playoffs is Friday.
“We still have a shot,” G-A coach Eric Shaner said. “If (starting pitcher Landon) Huth can throw strikes and the rain holds off, we have a chance.”
Huth threw all 3 innings last week and earned the win — Greencastle led 5-0 when the rain hit. He did not allow a hit and struck out 5. On Monday, Ben Horst threw 2 innings, allowing 3 hits but no runs.
Garrett Decker was 2-for-3 and had an RBI, while Briggs Remenick was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs batted in, and Logan Shifflett belted a double to score 3 runs. Ryan Farrow, Ethan Ford and Avery Horst each drove in a run.
