Fannett-Metal(14-4) travelled to Mcconnellsburg on Thursday evening for an ICC contest against the Spartans(13-5). The Tigers won the earlier season match up 7-6 in eight innings. The Tigers would win this game by a score of 3-0 to sweep the Spartans on the season. This is the 13th win in the last 14 games for the Tigers.
After a scoreless first inning the Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Adam Hammond singled off Spartan starter Landon Gress to get things started. He moved to second on an errant pickoff attempt. Noah Naugle walked to put runners on first and second. Tucker Seibert grounded out to the right side moving both runners up. Broc Hostler’s RBI single scored Hammond. The Spartans got out of the inning with a double play to limit the damage.
The Tigers made it 2-0 in the third inning. Jake Coffman stroked a double to lead off the inning. Landon Arnold singled and Coffman scored when the throw from the right fielder sailed out of play.
The Tigers added an insurance run in the 6th inning when Tucker Seibert singled to lead off the inning, moved to second on Broc Hostler’s sacrifice bunt and scored when Drew Goshorn’s singled to left and the left fielder threw the ball out of play. Jake Coffman singled moving Goshorn to third but back to back strikeouts by reliever Kaden Gress ended the threat.
The three runs was more than enough run support for Tigers starter Landon Arnold. The veteran righty threw a complete game gem on 77 pitches, throwing 50 for strikes. He gave up two infield hits and two walks while striking out five to get the win. Arnold sat the Spartans down in order in four innings.
Landon Gress suffered the loss for the Spartans. He gave up 2 runs on 8 hits with 3 walks and 5 strikeouts. Kaden Gress tossed the final two innings in relief giving up 1 run on 3 hits. He had 2 BB and 4 K.
The Tiger defense played errorless ball behind Arnold on the evening. Battery mate Drew Goshorn caught a stellar game behind the dish.
The Tigers had 11 hits on offense. Jake Coffman led the way with three hits. Tucker Seibert and Broc Hostler added had a pair of hits each. Landon Arnold, Wade Appleby, Drew Goshorn, and Adam Hammond all had one hit each. For the Spartans Gavin Fowler and Earley had the lone hits.
