Joel Fitz had four hits in four at-bats, and Jett Burger collected three hits in three at-bats, as the Southern Fulton Indians (16-3, 8-0) defeated Forbes Road 13-2 on Wednesday.
Burger singled in the fourth inning, doubled in the sixth inning, and singled in the first inning. Fitz singled in the 3rd, tripled and singled in the fourth, singled in the fifth, and singled in the sixth.
Southern Fulton plated seven runs in the fourth inning. The big inning was spearheaded by an
Ethan Powell’s bases-loaded single scored our runs thanks to an FR error. Burger singled, scoring one run; Austin Mann doubled, scoring one run; and Hunter Ward singled, scoring one run.
The Indians jumped out to the lead in the top of the third inning after Paul Hendershot hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, and Mark Fitz singled, scoring two runs.
Trentin Cain earned the win for the Indians. The right-handed pitcher allowed four hits and two runs over four innings, striking out seven and walking one. Sawyer Hollibaugh took the loss for Forbes Road. They went five innings, allowing 10 runs on 11 hits, striking out one and walking three. Owen Oakman stepped on the bump first for Southern Fulton. The starting pitcher gave up zero hits and runs over two innings, striking out five and walking none.
The Indians collected 14 hits in the game. Southern Fulton Varsity Indians’s Joel Fitz made the most of their chances at the plate.
Powell led Southern Fulton with three runs batted in. He went 1-for-3 on the day. The Indians stole five bases in the game.
Southern Fulton will play West Branch next Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in the semifinals of the ICC Tournament at Claysburg High School.
