Greencastle boys capture Colonial track & field crown

Greencastle-Antrim 86, Waynesboro 64: The Blue Devils finished the dual season with a perfect record (6-0, 6-0 MPC) to grab the Mid Penn Colonial championship for the third consecutive year on Tuesday evening, beating the Indians in Waynesboro.

“It was a really intriguing meet to end the season with two league championships on the line,” G-A coach Devin McCauley said. “There were a lot of great performances by both teams and an exciting day for area track & field.”

Hayden Parks led Greencastle with a pair of wins, taking the 1600 in 4:42.6 and the 3200 in 10:25. He also anchored the winning 4 x 800 relay (including Nathan Hanks, Ewan Coy and Joel Amstutz) to a win in 8:40.6, and took second in the 800 behind Nathan Parks (2:01.3).

Also picking up first places for the Blue Devils were Iyshone Coleman in the 400 (51.1), Sean Hoch in the shot put (44-2.75), Connor Rennekamp in the discus (125-7) and Blake Diller in the javelin (161-10), as well as the 4 x 400 relay team of Carter Coons, Coleman, Austin Nelson and Mason Gelsinger in 3:35.0.

Waynesboro produced a trio of double winners — Owen Shockey (110 and 300 hurdles, in 16.7 and 42.38, respectively); Preston Hammond in the 100, and 200, 10.9 and 22.41); and Grant Thompson in the high jump and triple jump (5-10 and 41-3).

Other ‘Boro winners were Alex Torbica in the long jump (20-0) and Nathan Nolan in the pole vault (11-0).

GIRLS TRACK
Waynesboro 81, Greencastle-Antrim 69: The Maidens won 2 of the 3 relays and 7 other events to hand the Blue Devils their first loss of the season and spoil a chance at winning the Mid Penn Colonial title in a meet at Waynesboro on Tuesday afternoon.

There were plenty of highlights for Greencastle (5-1, 5-1 MPC). Claire Paci won four events to end her stellar dual meet career. She won the 1600 in 5:38.2, the 800 in 2:28.4 and the 3200 in 11:46.5, and anchored the winning 4 x 800 team of Rowan Shubert, Avery Hinkle and Katherine Board, in a time of 10:48.5.

Jaylynn Schmuck  was victorious in the long jump (17-1) and triple jump (35-2), and both distances were personal bests for her. Bailey Hurley ripped off a prodigious discus throw of 135-11, which puts her into the top five in the state for the season.

“I was really proud of our athletes and we are looking forward to transitioning into the postseason competitions,” G-A coach Devin McCauley said.

Also taking wins for the Blue Devils were Anna Sullivan in the 400 (1:00.28) and Catherine Sollenberger in the javelin (93-10).

For the Maidens, who won the Colonial title, Jada Creager won 3 events, plus a relay win. She won the 100 in 12.5, the 200 in 26.6 and the pole vault at 11-6, and anchored the winning 4 x 100 team (50.08).

Also, True Benchoff was first in the 100 hurdles (16.9) and 300 hurdles (46.43) and anchored the 4 x 400 relay. Jaeda Dockman won the high jump in 5-3, and Ella Dingzon took the shot put with a throw of 31-0.75.
