G-A roundup: Track & field teams crush Bulldogs

BOYS TRACK & FIELD
Greencastle-Antrim 103, Big Spring 47: The Blue Devils captured first place in 12 events, including two relays, to crush the Bulldogs in a Mid Penn Colonial meet in Newville on Tuesday afternoon.

Greencastle’s Hayden Parks won the 800 in 2:08.5 and the 1600 in 4:21, with the latter time setting a stadium record at Big Spring.

The other two double winners on the track were Mason Gelsinger, in the 110 hurdles (17.1) and 300 hurdles (43.6), and Iyshone Coleman captured the 200 (23.1) and 400 (52.9).

The relay winners included Nolan Carr, Jameir Simms, Coleman and Trent Merillat in the 4 x 100 (44.9), and Parks, Jordan Hunt, Gelsinger and Austin Nelson in the 4 x 400 (3:44.9).

Greencastle (3-0, 3-0 MPC) also picked up four victories in field events. Conner Wright threw the javelin 169-2, Owen Plum won the triple jump in 37-10.5, Hunt took the high jump at 5-8 and Joseph Lofton won the pole vault at 10-0.

GIRLS TRACK & FIELD
Greencastle-Antrim 115, Big Spring 35: The Bulldogs managed to win only five events and that enabled the Blue Devils to roll up a comfortable Mid Penn Colonial victory in Newville on Tuesday afternoon.

Jaylynn Schmuck had a big day for Greencastle (3-0, 3-0 MPC), picking off wins in the 200 in 27.8, the triple jump in 32-9.5 and the long jump in 16-9, plus she anchored the winning 4 x 100 relay team that was timed in 52.2 and included Mary Murray, Lila Overcash and Brianna Woodring.

Katherine Board won a pair of events for the Blue Devils, the 1600 in 5:47.4 and the 3200 in 12:45.9.

On the track, other G-A winners included Aqueelah Hogue (17.7 in the 100 hurdles), Claire Paci in the 400 (1:00.0) and Kadence Abbott in the 300 hurdles (51.8).

Bailey Hurley won the discus with a toss of 112-10, Lily Kauffman captured the javelin with a throw of 109-11 and Piper Linn had a big jump in the pole vault, 11-6.
