ENOLA — Hershey took control early and used that advantage to defeat Greencastle-Antrim in a Mid Penn Conference boys basketball semifinal game Wednesday at East Pennsboro.
The Trojans took a 19-7 lead after one quarter and extended it to 40-22 by halftime.
G-A coach Todd Stephens said, “They started off hot, knocked down some threes and did what they’re good at. We had a tough time guarding them in some stretches.”
Hershey (20-2) is ranked No. 1 in the District 3 Class A, while Greencastle (18-5) is ranked No. 4. Although the brackets are not finalized yet, the Trojans should receive a bye in the district playoff’s first round Tuesday, while the Blue Devils are likely to play at home against No. 13 seed Lower Dauphin (12-10).
Conner Wright led Greencastle with 16 points, which included a 9-for-11 night at the foul line. Jordan Hunt dropped in four 3-pointers for 12 points, while Carter McCauley and Eli Sterling each scored 9 points.
“I thought we had some stretches where we played well,” Stephens said, “but I think we need to get better with our defense. But they are a good team.”
For Hershey, Derek Guzman led with 18 points, Logan Richards had 16 and Isiah Danner contributed 14. The Trojans will play Cumberland Valley, a 68-54 winner over Trinity in the other semifinal, on Friday night.
Stephens said, “Tonight was not our best game. We have to go back and make sure we do better with our good habits.”
