GIRLS BASKETBALL
Northern York 47, Greencastle-Antrim 44: The Blue Devils played tough against the division favorite Polar Bears, and had a shot to tie it at the buzzer, but had to take their first defeat of the season Tuesday night in a Mid Penn Colonial game in Dillsburg.

Haley Noblit

“We can take some positives from this,” G-A coach Mike Rhine said. “We had a terrible start on the road against one of the four or five best teams in the district and still only lost by three. I have to give the kids credit for fighting back.”

The Polar Bears (4-0, 1-0 MPC) used an effective press to take a 10-3 lead. Greencastle (3-1, 0-1 MPC) fought back to take a four-point lead with the ball in the third quarter. But Northern scored the next 12 points points to take control.

Again, G-A rallied and set up a 3-pointer at the end to tie the game, but Haley Noblit’s shot hit off the front of the rim.

“Their length and physical play gave us trouble,” Rhine said. “And they may have had as many offensive rebounds as we did rebounds total. Too many turnovers and not enough rebounds.”

Noblit scored 16 points, had 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals for Greencastle. Eva Martin scored 15 points, while Ainsley Swindell had 5 points, 3 rebounds and a pair of steals.
