Blazers erupt in 3rd quarter to earn victory

The Cumberland Valley Christian Blazers put together a dominant third quarter and went on to defeat Bishop Walsh of Cumberland, Md., 49-27 Tuesday in a non-league boys basketball game.

The Blazers (2-1) went into halftime trailing 16-15 after a nondescript first half. However, they roared into the third quarter and outscored Bishop Walsh 20-2 to build a commanding 35-18 cushion.

“We had a bit of a sluggish first half on both sides of the ball, and I felt we didn’t take advantage of some transition opportunities that we created for ourselves,” Blazers coach Austin Sanders said. “We made some adjustments at halftime, and the guys did a much better job of controlling the tempo of the game from there on.”

Gabe Beckering scored 14 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead the Blazers. Josh Rudy added 10 points, five rebounds and four assists. Reece Hunsberger added eight points, Thomas Garvin seven points and six steals, Ryan Crawford seven points and five rebounds, Nathan Minnier two points, and Turner Egolf one point.
