Blazers fall to Frederick team

The Cumberland Valley Christian Blazers went through a cold spell late in the fourth quarter and dropped a 57-48 decision to the Frederick Warriors Friday in a non-league boys basketball game.

The Blazers (1-1) entered the fourth quarter trailing 44-41. With the score holding static at 50-45 for multiple possessions, the Blazers had many opportunities to cut into the deficit but could never hit the big shots they needed.

“I thought we battled and played well enough to win for 3 1/2 quarters, but we couldn’t close it out,” Blazers coach Austin Sanders said. “We always talk about effort and execution as a team. I think the effort is there; we just need to do a better job of executing on both ends of the floor. The good news is, it’s nothing that we can’t fix in practice and get better at as the season goes on.”

Reece Hunsberger netted 19 points to lead the Blazers in scoring. Josh Rudy contributed a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds while adding four assists.

Also for the Blazers, Thomas Garvin had seven points and four assists, Turner Egolf scored three points, and Gabe Beckering, Ryan Crawford, Zack Mace and Nathan Minnier each scored two points. Minnier added five rebounds.
