Jason Chambers

Last week: The Trojans (3-4, 3-4, 1-3 MPC) fell to Altoona, 25-7 … CD East (3-4, 1-3 MPC) gave Harrisburg a battle before falling late, 34-27.
The opponent: East is not as run-heavy as last week’s opponent, Altoona, but they have one of the best running backs in the Commonwealth in Jared Porter … Last week against a strong Harrisburg defense, Porter racked up 227 yards and a touchdown … This is not a good scenario for the Trojans, who allowed power backs to gain 256 and 277 yards in the last two games and allowed 610 yards on the ground (and only 16 passing yards) in those two games … CDE’s quarterback is Demaj Jalloh, who completed 14 of 25 passes for 83 yards last week … An’Tiyan Neal caught 5 balls for 37 yards and Xavier Armstrong ran for 2 TDs.
Coach’s view: “(East) played a great game last week and let it slip through their fingertips,” Chambersburg coach Mark Luther said. “They lost a lot of seniors from last year, but their kids play hard. They’re not big overall, but they have really good team speed. We’ve gone up against some lines bigger than us recently, but that’s not so much the case this week … but these guys are quick on the D-line. Once again, if we can’t run the ball, and we can’t stop the run, it’s going to be tough.”
Unsung: Safety Jason Chambers (jr., 5-9, 160) had 8 tackles, one assisted tackle and one tackle for a loss last week … Luther said, “All of the coaches raved about Jason’s play last week. He was really playing downhill, making tackles from the secondary. He really helped to shut down Altoona’s perimeter option game — I think they had only two or three plays where they got positive yardage on that.”
Stats: Passing — Riley Harmon 87-for-146 (60%), 1,158 yards, 9 TDs, 4 int. … Rushing — Imani Watson 40-173, 2 TDs; Antonio Harrison 36-142, 2 TDs; Dayre Senft 45-123, 1 TD … Receiving — Rhaigeon Parker 23-351, 3 TDs; Jermere Jones 21-308, 2 TDs; Trever Luther 19-266, 1 TD.

Logan Shifflett

Last week: The Blue Devils (5-2, 2-2 MPC) were blanked 25-0 by Susquehanna Township … Gettysburg (4-3, 3-1 MPC) outlasted Waynesboro, 49-34.
The opponent: The defending Colonial champions have a diverse and productive offense … The Warriors average 33.1 points per game, but they also allow 26.3 points per game … Quarterback Brady Heiser is very strong in the air, hitting on 100 of 160 passes (62.5%) for 1,300 yards, 12 TDs and 4 int. … He has also run 70 times for 440 and 12 scores … RB Preston Burnett has 165 carries for 918 yards and 4 TDs … Top receivers are Shayde Shultz (26-247, 3 TDs), Landon Erik Keefer (24-321) and David Beamer (19-307, 1 TD).
Coach’s view: Greencastle coach Devin McCauley said, “The quarterback does a nice job passing, but he’s also dangerous running the inside zone read stuff. They’ve got a well-rounded offensive team and they score a lot of points. What we have to do is, our offense must make first downs and move the ball — we haven’t done a great job of that the last two weeks. Shippensburg (held Gettysburg to 13 points) prevented the big plays and that’s what we need to do. We have to be sound in our gaps get hats to the football and force them to drive. We need to run the ball more effectively. We did some good things last week, but we need to build on them.”
Unsung: Fullback/linebacker Logan Shifflett (sr., 5-11, 195) … McCauley said, “It was Logan’s fourth straight game with 10 or more tackles. We were down big and he was hustling all over the field. His effort and mentality are huge for us. He plays every play like it’s really important and is a solid leader.”
Stats: Passing — Logan Alvey 73-for-113 (65%), 829 yards, 7 TDs, 3 int. … Rushing — Xzavier Ramsey 66-361, 2 TDs; Surzano Solomon 35-299, 3 TDs; Carter Coons 35-271, 3 TDs … Receiving — Carter McCauley 21-336, 3 TDs; Garrett Blubaugh 9-124, 1 TD … Tackles — Trent Merillat 55, Parker Funk 58, Shifflett 55 … Tackles for loss — Funk 10, Sal Bangura 10.
