Last week: The Trojans (3-2, 1-1 MPC) earned a hard-fought 3-0 win over Carlisle … CV (1-4, 1-1 MPC) was defeated 42-7 by Harrisburg.
The opponent: The Eagles have beaten CD East, and have been defeated by Manheim Twp., Central York and Spring-Ford in a tough non-league slate … Daegan Rardain has taken over as the quarterback — he has completed 11 of 27 passes (40.7%) for 156 yards, 0 TDs and 1 pick … Bryce Staretz is the top running back, with 35 carries for 117 yards and 1 score … Caiden Pines has 8 catches for 83 yards, and returned a kickoff for a touchdown last week.
Coach’s view: Chambersburg coach Mark Luther said, “Losing their quarterback from last year was big, and they haven’t found that replacement yet. We know if we can control their running game and force them pass, then we have the advantage. Their defense has given up some big plays, although they played well for a half against Harrisburg.”
Unsung: Running backs Dayre Senft (10 carries, 54 yards) and Imani Watson (17-61) had a good second half against Carlisle … Luther said, “They both ran the ball well in the second half when we needed to kill some clock. They ran hard and protected the ball, and were huge in the fourth quarter.”
Stats: Passing — Riley Harmon 68-108 (63%), 863 yards, 7 TDs, 3 int. … Rushing — Antonio Harrison 32-119, 2 TDs; Senft 33-103, 1 TD; Watson 28-101, 1 TD … Receiving — Jermere Jones 17-268, 2 TDs; Rhaigeon Parker 16-163, 1 TD; Trever Luther 14-184; Jake Folmar 14-144, 2 TDs.
NORTHERN YORK AT GREENCASTLE-ANTRIM
Game data: Friday, 7 p.m., at Kaley Field … Mid Penn Colonial game … Live stream on MidPennBroadcasting.com.
Last week: The Blue Devils (4-1, 1-1 MPC) suffered their first loss, a 24-13 verdict vs. East Pennsboro … The Polar Bears (1-4, 0-2 MPC) were edged 29-28 by Waynesboro.
The opponent: Northern’s offense revolves around battering ram running back Cole Bartram (5-10, 195), who had over 1,600 yards last year and this year has 136 carries for 721 yards (5.3 avg.) and 5 touchdowns … QB Grady Bonin has connected on just 29 of 65 throws (44.6%) for 399 yards, 3 TDs and 6 int. … Receive Jake Bechtel has 9 catches for 119 yards and 2 scores.
Coach’s view: G-A coach Devin McCauley said, “Bartram is a big, physical running back, and I feel like we’ve seen him for 10 years. He’s very tough and they work everything through him. Goal No. 1 is stopping him, but that’s easier said than done. Their quarterback has improved every game, so we can’t fall asleep on him. Their defense is very aggressive and tackles well and will do a lot of blitzes and stunts. We need to do a better job of converting on third down this week.”
Unsung: Two-way lineman Parker Funk gets the nod again … He was the offensive lineman of the game and on defense he had 14 tackles, 2 sacks and 2 more tackles for a loss … McCauley said, “He probably played every down and he was very disruptive.”
Stats: Passing — Logan Alvey 44-for-66 (68%), 567 yards, 6 TDs, 2 int. … Rushing — Xzavier Ramsey 46-297, 1 TD; Surzano Solomon 26-262, 3 TDs; Carter Coons 23-255, 3 TDs … Receiving — Carter McCauley 14-252, 3 TDs; Garrett Blubaugh 6-87, 1 TD; Coons 7-53, 1 TD … Tackles — Trent Merrillat 43; Parker Funk 41 … Tackles for loss — Funk 12; Sal Bangura 10 (6 sacks) … Interceptions — Blake Diller 2.
