Chambersburg 3, Carlisle 1: The Trojans got off to a quick start on the road against the Thundering Herd in Monday night’s Mid Penn Commonwealth game, with Cristian Lopez poking in two goals in the game’s first 10 minutes.
Mario Wiesman also scored in the first half, while assists went to Luca Gaisbauer and Michael Cespedes for Chambersburg (6-3, 3-2 MPC).
“I thought our front 4-5 guys were excellent in creating chances and being dynamic,” Trojan coach Corey Grove said. “Cristian got us off to a flying start. We kind of took our foot off the gas with a few minutes left in the first half, but turned in a solid second-half performance to see the game out.”
The Trojans out-shot the Herd 12-3, although Carlisle had more corners, 6-3. Drew Cover made 2 saves for Chambersburg.
GIRLS SOCCER
Carlisle 2, Chambersburg 1, 2 OT: The Thundering Herd punched in a goal with 4 minutes left in the second overtime period to topple the Trojans in a Mid Penn Commonwealth game at Trojan Stadium on Monday night.
Carlisle scored in the first half and held off Chambersburg (5-4-1, 1-4-1 MPC) until Lily Nichter finished off a series of one-touch passes for a goal that tied the game.
“I feel real bad for the players after this game,” Trojan coach Ed Franchi said. “They fought so hard and played so well, but the outcome didn’t go our way. We out-shot them 14-7 and I thought we had the better run of the play.
“I had to make some adjustments because I have several players who are sick, but every player stepped up nicely.”
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
State College 3, Chambersburg 2: The Trojans took the Little Lions to the limit before just falling short in a Mid Penn Commonwealth match on the road Monday night.
State College won the first game 25-23, then Chambersburg went ahead with wins of 25-21 and 25-16. But the Little Lions turned it around to win 25-18 and then 17-15 in the deciding game 5.
Chambersburg coach Ty Frelin said, “It was a really good match between two evenly-matched teams. We did some nice things tonight, but just couldn’t get over the hump. We fought hard and competed until the end, so I was proud of the girls tonight.”
Paige Davis was active for the Trojans (3-7, 2-5 MPC), with 8 service points, 36 assists and 17 digs, as was Marah Lehman (13 points, 10 kills and 23 digs).
Other leaders included Karley Skultety (17 points, 28 digs), Addi Kegerreis (25 kills), Riley Evans (3 blocks) and Alayna Jones (3 blocks
BOYS GOLF
Mid Penn qualifier: A qualifying tournament for players to get to the Mid Penn Conference championship was held Monday afternoon at Manada G.C. and neither of Chambersburg’s entrants were able to make the field.
The cutoff score was 83. The Trojans who competed were Brady Fretz, who shot 88, and Brady Sites, who tallied 90.
The Mid Penn championship will be held Thursday at Dauphin Highlands G.C. for boys and girls.
GIRLS TENNIS
Chambersburg at Mechanicsburg: The match was postponed by rain and will be made up on Thursday at 4 p.m.
