GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Greencastle-Antrim 3, Northern York 0: The Blue Devils won their fourth straight match by blanking the Polar Bears in a Mid Penn Colonial road contest on Tuesday evening.
“The girls played a solid match, distributed the ball well and held off a strong push by Northern at the end of the third game,” G-A coach Corry Eagler said.
Greencastle (5-1, 4-1 MPC) won games of 25-16, 25-15 and 25-22.
Kylie Kerns had a big night for the Blue Devils, racking up 6 kills, 13 service points, 5 aces, 10 digs and 8 assists.
Abigail Eagler had 13 points and 6 kills, Lily Kauffman put up 2 blocks, Brianna Woodring had 11 digs and Alaina Garling added 10 assists.
FIELD HOCKEY
Greencastle-Antrim 2, Central Dauphin East 0: The Blue Devils scored a goal in the first quarter to take the lead and tacked on an insurance goal in the fourth period to blank the Panthers in a Mid Penn Colonial game Tuesday afternoon on the road.
“It was refreshing to see our team use each other to pass the ball continuously up the field in give-and-go type situations,” G-A coach Lorraine Hohl said. “It was effective and ultimately led to goals.”
Abby Kielek opened the scoring for Greencastle (2-5, 2-4 MPC), which snapped a five-game losing streak. Ainsley Swindell assisted on the score.
In the fourth quarter, G-A’s Alishya Thurmond added to the narrow lead with a goal.
Goalie Brittany Reed made 2 saves for the Blue Devils.
GOLF
Blue Devils finish 2nd: Greencastle-Antrim snuck into second place ahead of Waynesboro in the final Mid Penn Colonial golf match of the season, thereby enabling Northern York to clinch the season team championship.
Northern won easily with 318 strokes on its home course, Range End, followed by G-A (332) and Waynesboro (336).
In the final standings, the Polar Bears were 38-4, ‘Boro was 37-5, Shippensburg took third (28-14), the Blue Devils were 20-22 in fourth and James Buchanan was sixth at 4-38.
The Indians’ Tyler Fortney won medalist honors by shooting a 2-over par 73. G-A’s Cooper Swam tied for second with a 79. The Greyhound duo of Ben Horgos and Jack Johnson tied for seventh by posting 82’s and Greencastle’s Conner Wilhide was 10th with an 83.
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
Blue Devils take split: In a pair of close Mid Penn Colonial dual meets Tuesday afternoon at Boiling Springs, Greencastle-Antrim took a 24-32 win over Big Spring, but fell to the host Bubblers, 26-30.
Claire Paci crossed the line first in the race for Greencastle in a time of 20:05.8, almost two minutes ahead of the runner-up.
Also for the Blue Devils (3-3), Katherine Board was fourth in 22:50.3, Sophia Young took sixth in 24:06.8 and Emily Forrester was 11th in 24:59.4.
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
G-A picks up pair of wins: In a competitive Mid Penn Colonial double-dual meet Tuesday at Boiling Springs, the Blue Devils earned wins over the host Bubblers (26-31) and Big Spring (24-31) and ran their record to 4-1 (4-1 MPC).
The 1-2 punch of Hayden Parks and Joel Amstutz played a big role in the wins. They finished at the top in 17:25.9 and 17:55.2, respectively.
In addition, Cash Monn placed sixth in 19:35.8 and Isaac Boyer was 10th in 19:48.2.
