Blazers blank Shalom, 2-0

The Cumberland Valley Christian Blazers turned in one of their best performances of the year as they won at Shalom Christian 2-0 Tuesday night in a Mason Dixon Christian Conference boys soccer game.

The Blazers (7-1-1, 5-1 MDCC) took over first place in the MDCC from the previously unbeaten Flames (4-1 MDCC).

Junior Gage Brookens scored both goals for the Blazers. Since rejoining the team last week, Brookens has tallied five of the Blazers’ six goals in the last three games, all tight victories.

Cort Stouffer and Finlay Smith added assists. Goalkeeper Gabe Beckering made 20 saves in the shutout.

Coach Stan Hott lauded the play of Smith and Landon Kellogg in the midfield and Evan Statler on defense. He said that Statler “expertly shut down his half of the field, denying several key shots and crosses.”
