Trojans have 4 top seeds for District 3 track & field

The District 3 Track & Field Championships will happen Friday and Saturday at Shippensburg University and there is a good chance that area athletes will be taking some nice medals home with them.

Chambersburg enters the competition with four No. 1 seeds. Sophomore J.J. Kelly has the best triple jump and high jump so far in the district, and he’s also seeded No. 2 in the long jump.

In addition, Kelly has been running with the Trojans’ 4 x 100 relay team, along with Kason Besecker, Blake Mallast and Antonio Harrison II, that is seeded No. 1.

On the girls’ side, Camryn Kiser has posted the best time so far in the 1600, and she’s also seeded No. 2 in the 3200 race.

Chambersburg’s boys have three other athletes seeded in the top 5 — Jermere Jones in the 110 hurdles (3rd), Sedrick Vessah in the shot put (4th) and Peter Mertz in the discus (4th). For the girls, Natalia Holmes has the No. 5 seed in the 100.

For Greencastle-Antrim, Claire Paci is seeded No. 3 in the 1600 and No. 5 in the 3200, Piper Linn is the No. 3 seed in the pole vault, and for the boys, Seth Stouffer holds the No. 5 spot in the 200.

Shippensburg’s Jillian Sydnor is the second seed in the girls 400 and Waynesboro’s Jaylon Bean is No. 3 in the boys triple jump.

Several field events will finish Friday, but the only final on the track is the 3200. Saturday’s competition begins at 9 a.m.
