Fannett-Metal Edges Northern Bedford

annett-Metal (9-10) hosted Northern Bedford in an ICC league match up and hung on for a 5-3 victory.

The Tigers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning.  Jake Coffman got things started with a one out single. Coffman was forced out at second on Landon Arnold fielder ‘s choice.  Arnold stole second and Adam Hammond walked to put runners on first and second.  Broc Hostler’s ground ball was misplayed by the second baseman scoring Arnold.  Wade Appleby’s two run RBI single scored Hammond and Hostler to make 3-0.

Tiger right hander Landon Arnold held the Black Panthers scoreless through four innings of play.  He recorded 10 strikeouts in the first four innings and allowed only two hits.  In the 5th inning, the Black Panthers loaded the bases on a walk, hit and an error.  Arnold reached his pitch limit on his 11th strikeout of the game and was relieved by Broc Hostler with a 4-1 lead.  Hostler gave up an infield hit and a walk before getting a big strikeout to limit the damage.

Hostler pitched a scoreless 6th inning.  The Tigers then turned to junior Daxten Detweiler in the 7th.  After issuing a lead off walk, Detweiler got a fly ball to left, a strikeout and a fly ball to center to record the save.  “Landon was dominating through four innings today.  Broc and Dax both pitched well in relief.  Our young pitchers are competing and getting better every week”, Coffman said.

The Tigers scored a run in the 3rd when Wade Appleby knocked in Hostler with a two out RBI single.  In the 5th, they added an insurance run when Adam Hammond stroked an RBI single to score Landon Arnold.

The Tigers recorded five hits on the day.  Goshorn, Coffman, and Hammond each had one hit while Appleby had a pair of hits.
