West Perry 2, Greencastle-Antrim 1: The Mustangs squeezed home the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth and weathered a Blue Devil threat in the seventh to capture a Mid Penn Colonial victory in Elliottsburg on Monday afternoon.
“Both pitchers threw well and both were able to work out of some jams,” G-A coach Eric Shaner said. “We made one error and they didn’t; that was the main difference.”
Greencastle (5-4 (3-4 MPC) scored in the second inning on an RBI single by Logan Shifflett, but the Mustangs tied it in the bottom half. In the sixth, West Perry (6-4) went ahead on an error, a base hit through the hole and a squeeze bunt.
“We were ready for the squeeze (by Cole Brown), because we know they like to use it,” Shaner said. “It was a bang-bang play, but he was safe.”
Jace Szaflarski took the loss despite a quality start. He pitched 5.2 innings, allowing 4 hits, did not walk a batter and struck out 9. Ethan Ford and Darren Kline hit doubles for G-A.
