Fannett-Metal Defeats Southern Huntingdon in Five Innings

The Tigers (6-3) travelled to Southern Huntingdon for an ICC league contest with the Rockets and came home with an 11-1 victory in five innings.

Fannett-Metal got off the bus swinging as the Tigers scored six runs in the first inning.  Drew Goshorn started the game off with a single.  Jake Coffman followed with a line drive to center moving Goshorn to 3rd.  Landon Arnold then unleashed a two run triple to the fence scoring both runners.  Wade Appleby followed with an RBI single to score Arnold.  Adam Hammond and Daxten Detweiler both would draw walks to load the bases.  After an out, Logan Hall walked to force in Appleby.  Tucker Seibert’s ground ball was misplayed by a Rocket defender scoring the final two runs of the inning to make it 6-0 before the Rockets even got a chance to bat.

The 6-0 start was more than enough run support for Tiger starter Landon Arnold.  Arnold allowed one run in five innings.  He had 8 strikeouts, 1 BB and 2 HBP.  The Rockets had 3 hits on the day.  “Landon pitched a solid game and we made some nice plays in the field behind him”, Coffman said.

The Tigers added two runs in the 3rd inning and three more runs in the 5th inning to bring on the mercy rule.

The Tigers had 10 hits on the day.  Wade Appleby, Landon Arnold, Jake Coffman and Noah Naugle each had a pair of hits.    Drew Goshorn and Adam Hammond each chipped in one hit.  The Tigers had 11 stolen bases on the day.

Fannett-Metal returns to action on Friday for a 4:30 non-league game against visiting James Buchanan.
