GIRLS TRACK & FIELD
Shippensburg 85, Greencastle 65: The Blue Devils won seven individual events, but the Greyhounds showed better depth and defeated G-A in a Mid Penn Colonial meet Tuesday at Kaley Field.
Claire Paci finished first four times for Greencastle (0-1, 0-1 MPC). She won the 800 in 2:34.1, the 1600 in 5:48.9 and the 3200 in 12:55.1, and anchored the winning 4 x 800 relay team.
For Ship, Jillian Sydnor equaled that output by winning the 100 (12.3), 200 (26.6) and 400 (1:03.6) and anchored the winning 4 x 100 relay.
Also taking first place for Greencastle were Jaylynn Schmuck in the long jump (15-11.5), Piper Linn in the pole vault (10-6), Bailey Hurley in the discus (120-9) and Darcie Holdsworth in the javelin (97-2).
Victoria Kalp won the 100 (18.0) and 300 hurdles (52.6) for the Greyhounds, Grace Davis took the triple jump (30-2.5), Alyssa Trn was the high jump winner (4-10) and Mackenzie Yohe won the shot put (28-7).
Also, Ship’s Erica Buchheister took second in the pole vault, but posted a jump of 10-0, which is a school record.
BASEBALL
Shippensburg 7, Greencastle-Antrim 3: The Greyhounds jumped ahead early with four unearned runs in the first inning and held off the Blue Devils in a Mid Penn Colonial tussle Tuesday afternoon in Ship.
“We got behind 5-0 and they had Tucker Chamberlin on the mound,” G-A coach Eric Shaner. “We showed good character to give ourselves a shot at the end.”
Chamberlin pitched 5.2 innings and struck out 12 Blue Devils.
“Having that many strikeouts just squelches too many possible rallies,” Shaner said.
Aiden Grudzinski had two singles and an RBI for Greencastle (1-1, 0-1 MPC), and Darren Kline, Carter Reid and Logan Shifflett each had one hit.
Jace Szaflarski started and took the loss for the Blue Devils.
“Shippensburg only had four hits and none were hit that hard,” Shaner said. “But they made the plays and we played shoddy defense. We have to clean things up.”
