The Southern Fulton Indians (1-0, 1-0 ICC) put up eight runs in the third on its way to a convincing 5 inning 12-2 victory over visiting Claysburg-Kimel in the 2023 season opener on Tuesday.
Trayton Younker, Hunter Ward, Kasey Fitz, Josh Morgan, Jett Burger, and Younker powered the big inning with RBIs.
The Indians fell behind in the top of the first by allowing two unearned runs. SoFo responded quickly as Kasey Fitz led off with a double In the bottom of the first inning. They quickly were able to tie things up at two when Senior catcher Trayton Younker drove in one with a single and plated another on a wild pitch.
Southern Fulton Indians pulled away for good with eight runs in the third inning. Younker drew a walk, scoring one run, Ward drew a walk, scoring one run, Fitz drew a walk, scoring one run, Morgan drew a walk, scoring one run, and Jett Burger doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs, and Younker singled on a 3-2 count, scoring two runs.
Owen Oakman earned the win for the Indians. The freshman hurler pitched four innings, allowing two hits and zero runs while striking out four and walking zero.
Rob Schneider took the loss for Claysburg-Kimmel. The bulldog allowed three hits and four runs over two and a third innings, striking out one.
Jett Burger started the game for Southern Fulton Varsity Indians. Burger lasted one inning, allowing zero hits and two runs while striking out two
The Indians had ten hits in the game. Paul Hendershot, Burger, and Younker all had multiple hits for the Indians.
SoFo travels to Rappahannock, Virginia on a Friday to play in the Mason Dixon Slugfest. They will play Rappahannock HS Friday night at 6pm and Norumberland HS Saturday morning at 10am.
