Fannett-Metal (1-0) hosted Rockwood in a non-conference game on Monday evening and posted a solid 10-0 opening day shutout.
The Tigers got a dominating performance from sophomore pitcher Landon Arnold. Arnold had 14 strikeouts, no walks while scattering 4 hits in the five inning contest. “Landon attacked the strike zone the entire game and really commanded the ball well”, Coach Paul Coffman said.
The Tigers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. Drew Goshorn walked to lead off the game and moved to 3rd on a base hit by Jake Coffman. After two outs, Goshorn scored on an Adam Hammond ground ball and Coffman scored on an RBI hit by Daxton Detweiler.
The Tigers added two more runs in the third, three runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth inning to bring on the mercy rule.
Offensively, Jake Coffman had three hits and scored a pair of runs. Drew Goshorn had a double and scored three runs. Adam Hammond had a pair of RBI’s and one hit. Tucker Seibert scored two runs and added an RBI double in the 5th. Arnold and Detweiler each had RBI singles. The Tigers had nine stolen bases.
Fannett-Metal will host Forbes Road on Tuesday in a 4:30 ICC contest.
