Greencastle-Antrim 52, York Suburban 48: The Blue Devils survived a challenging road test Wednesday night in York, edging the Trojans in a non-league game behind a career-high 26 points from Haley Noblit.

The win secured the No. 1 seed in District 3 Class 5A and a place in the Mid Penn playoffs next week. Greencastle (20-1) and Northern York (20-2) shared the MPC Colonial Division title, but G-A will represent the Colonial in the MPC playoffs based on a higher district ranking.

The Blue Devils will take on the Commonwealth champion, Altoona, on Tuesday at 6 p.m., with site to be determined.

“They were bigger and more physical than us in every position, but our kids battled,” Greencastle coach Mike Rhine said. “It was a grind; every possession. It took a total team effort.”

Greencastle led at halftime 28-16, thanks to a couple of 3-pointers from Noblit, two from Meadow Gambacurta and another from Aubrey Smith.

“Mia (Libby) was out for a while in foul trouble in the second quarter and we actually increased our lead,” Rhine said.

But York Suburban (15-7, No. 5 in District 3) fought back in the third to trail only 37-32.

A 3-pointer by Anna Ekstrom brought the Trojans to within 47-46 with 18.6 seconds left. Noblit had a pair of foul shots and made the first. She missed the second, but the Blue Devils got the rebound when Shaina Overcash tipped the ball out to Noblit.

Noblit was fouled again and made both to push the lead to 50-46 with 13.6 left. After Suburban scored, Noblit hit two more free throws. She was 9-for-10 at the line, including 5-for-6 in the final 18 seconds, and was 3 of 4 from 3-point range.

Rhine said, “They had two good defenders and they put one on Mia (Libby) and one on Rylee (Henson). The one guarding Haley wasn’t bad, but she was able to get past few and she was shooting really well.

“We needed this kind of game going into districts,” Rhine said.

Also, Noblit had 6 steals, Shaina Overcash had 8 rebounds and Ainsley Swindell added 6 boards.
