Chambersburg roundup: Girls top East; boys come up just short

Ella Parker

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Chambersburg 41, CD East 36: In a foul-filled game, the Trojans got the better of the Panthers to earn a Mid Penn Commonwealth victory on Friday night at CASHS Field House.

The teams combined to shoot 59 foul shots, with Chambersburg going 18-for-33 and East making 14 of 26. The Trojans outscored CDE 13-8 in the final quarter and were 5 of 11 at the line.

The Trojans (5-13, 4-7 MPC) have won 4 of their last 5 games.

“We are finding ways to win, even when we aren’t playing our best basketball,” Chambersburg coach Jamiur King said. “East was down a couple of players but gave everything they had.”

Bree Paetow led Chambersburg with 16 points, including 7 in the final quarter. Ella Parker also put in 10 points for the Trojans.

King said, “Paetow kept us in it early with some big buckets. We didn’t shoot free throws well, which is typically something we do well, but stringing two wins together is great for our program.”

BOYS BASKETBALL
Central Dauphin East 50, Chambersburg 49: Missing a key player, the Trojans came up just short in a Mid Penn Commonwealth contest against the Panthers on Friday night in Harrisburg.

“We found out right before the game that (second-leading scorer) Jacob (Bassham) wouldn’t be able to play, so we had to quickly change our lineup and our game plan,” Chambersburg coach Shawn Shreffler.

“I was extremely proud of how our team responded to the adversity. They played really hard, did a lot of things well and gave themselves a great chance to win the game. We just didn’t get it done.”

CD East (6-10) gained some revenge for a 2-point defeat at Chambersburg earlier.

The Trojans held the lead after three quarters, 42-36, but were outscored 14-7 in the fourth. They have now lost 6 of their last 9 games.

J.J. Kelly paced the Trojans (10-8, 5-6 MPC) with 23 points and Carter Fogal added 10.
