G-A roundup: Girls win another tight game

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Greencastle-Antrim 41, Manheim Central 39: For the second straight night, the Blue Devils won a nail-biter, and the comeback victory over the Barons handed G-A the title of the York Suburban Holiday Tournament on Thursday night.

It didn’t look good for Greencastle, trailing 35-28 with 4:35 left in the game. but Shaina Overcash dropped in a 3-pointer, then Haley Noblit drained two treys on consecutive possessions to give her team a 37-35 lead.

Manheim Central scored on a putback to tie the game. Then Noblit missed a three, but Ainsley Swindell grabbed the rebound and banked it in left-handed. After G-A drew a charge, Mia Libby drove for a layup and a 41-37 lead and the Blue Devils (8-0) held on.

“It was an amazing game, and so much fun,” Greencastle coach Mike Rhine said. “It really wasn’t looking good, but then we made that quick turnaround. They had guarded Haley tight all game with their 6-1 star, but she just got free for those threes.”

Noblit, who was named the tourney MVP, scored 14 points and had 7 rebounds and 3 steals. Libby put up 14 points, 6 boards, 5 assists and 3 steals, Overcash had 8 points and 3 rebounds and Swindell had 8 rebounds and 4 points.

Rylee Henson was also named to the all-tournament team.

For the Barons (6-3), Maddie Knier scored 21 points.

Donegal 54, Greencastle-Antrim 47: The Blue Devils outscored the Indians in each of the first three quarters in the consolation game of the East Pennsboro Holiday Tournament on Thursday night, but Donegal rallied to collect the win.

Donegal (5-5) outscored G-A 20-8 in the final period, which including a 10-for-12 effort at the free throw line.

For Greencastle (5-3), Conner Wright scored 16 points and Eli Sterling added 10, while Blake Shadoan knocked down a pair of 3-pointers for 6 points.

The Blue Devils shot only two free throws in the second half, while Donegal attempted 14.
