GIRLS BASKETBALL
Greencastle-Antrim 41, Northern York 40: The Blue Devils hung on dearly at the end to preserve a narrow Mid Penn Colonial home victory over the Polar Bears on Tuesday night, surviving a last-second shot attempt that was not close.

“We showed our toughness, but so did Northern,” Greencastle coach Mike Rhine said. “They sort of beat us at our own game, hitting some big 3-pointers, and we were 2-for-20 … at home.”

The Bue Devils (4-0, 1-0 MPC) played well in the first half and led 30-20 at the break. But the Polar Bears’ defense held G-A to just 11 points in the second half and only 3 until there was only 4:25 left.

Northern came all the way back to tie the game 35-35 with 1:24 left on two foul shots by Addie Place. But Rylee Henson made a huge play with a driving layup for Greencastle at 1:05. After a turnover, Mia Libby sank both ends of a 1-and-1 to give her team a 39-35 lead at 0:47.

Anna Lehman’s putback for the Bears was matched by two free throws by G-A’s Haley Noblit, and the Blue Devils survived despite a 3-pointer by Siena Ondecko.

Rhine said, “Mia and Haley moved the ball around really well in the first half, but we’ll need to keep our composure a little better. And we half to shoot better at the line (8 of 17 in the first half).”

Libby led with 12 points and 5 steals, Noblit had 11 points and 6 rebounds, Henson contributed 8 points and Shaina Overcash had 6 points and 12 boards.
