G-A roundup: Volleyball clinches Colonial division tile

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Greencastle-Antrim 3, West Perry 0: The Blue Devils remained unbeaten and clinched the Mid Penn Colonial Division title by rolling past West Perry on Tuesday evening at home.

Greencastle is now 15-0 (13-0 MPC) with one match left. G-A also holds the No. 1 ranking in District 3 Class 3A.

The Blue Devils won with scores of 25-8, 25-15 and 25-8.

Lily Kauffman led in kills with 10, while Ololla Sanchez had 7 and Kiley Burkholder had 6. The leaders in digs were Abigail Eagler (6) and Burkholder and Ryleigh Davis (4 each.

Madeline Eagler picked up 17 assists. In the serving department, Kate Furnish, Sanchez and Madeline Eagler each had 12 points, Eagler and Furnish each had 5 aces and Sanchez had 4.

Greencastle-Antrim 3, Big Spring 1: The Blue Devils defeated the Bulldogs in a Mid Penn Colonial game on the road Tuesday night and moved into potential playoff position.

Greencastle is 11-5 (8-5 MPC) and is now ranked No. 15 in District 3 Class 3A and the top 16 qualify for the playoffs.

“We know what’s ahead of us Thursday night – it is essentially a playoff game between us and Boiling Springs (ranked No. 16),” G-A coach Aric Bruner said. “I’m anxious to see how the boys step up to the challenge.”

The Blue Devils got a first-half goal from Chase Davidson, from Garrett Decker. Caleb Baine made it 2-0 early in the second half, then the Bulldogs scored on a PK. But Baine scored again from Ewan Coy for insurance. Goalkeeper Ethan Ford made 3 stops.

Bruner said, “It was great to get Ewan back after a month of being injured. I wish we would have kept the clean sheet and not given them a penalty kick – that’s something we need to clean up.”

Greencastle-Antrim 7, Big Spring 0: A night after losing for the first time (2-0 to Trinity), the Blue Devils rebounded with a shutout Mid Penn Colonial victory over the Bulldogs at Kaley Field.

A win Thursday over Boiling Springs would wrap up the Colonial crown for G-A (15-1-1 (12-0-1 MPC).

Greencastle scored all 7 of its goals in the first half. Mia Libby had 2 goals and an assist, Haley Noblit scored a goal and had 2 assists, Maddie Koons rapped in a pair of goals and Sajel Sriram and Aubrey Smith each added a goal.

 

FIELD HOCKEY
Northern York 8, Greencastle-Antrim 0: The Blue Devils completed their season with a Mid Penn Colonial defeat at the hands of the Polar Bears on Tuesday afternoon at G-A.

Goalie Jade Erazo made 18 saves for Greencastle, which finished 8-10 (6-6 MPC). Northern is 15-2-1.
