G-A roundup: Blue Devil field hockey opens with big win

FIELD HOCKEY
Greencastle-Antrim 6, Waynesboro 0: The Blue Devils kicked off their season with a blanking of Mid Penn Colonial rival Waynesboro on Friday.

Ainsley Swindell

Ainsley Swindell had the hot hand for Greencastle, scoring four times, and the G-A defense did not allow the Maidens any shots on goal against goalie Jade Erazo.

Greencastle coach Lorraine Hohl, after her first game, said, “Both Liz Reichard (JV coach) and I are extremely proud of the hard work and resiliency the players showed. While we have many areas to regroup and adjust, we had a strong game. It was enjoyable to watch practice play become game play and even more watching the players notice and incorporate specifics in their game play.

“Their sportsmanlike conduct was noticed by the referees and appreciated, and it’s something we continue to want to show. ”

Also for the Blue Devils (1-0, 1-0 MPC), Ellie Divelbiss and Annika Gaus found the cage with shots, Alyshia Thurmond contributed a pair of assists and Abby Stouffer also set one goal up.
