G-A roundup: Volleyball team rallies to beat Trojans

Lily Kauffman

Greencastle-Antrim 3, Chambersburg 2: The Blue Devils fell behind the Trojans 2-0, but found a way to reverse their fortunes and captured a 3-2 non-league victory on the road to open their season.

“It was a huge win for us tonight,” G-A coach Cory Eagler said. “From an 0-2 start, we pulled it together to win the next three. Down the stretch, many girls made some big plays to make it happen- led at the net by Lily Kauffman and Kiley Burkholder.”

Kauffman led the way with 10 kills and Burkholder had nine kills and 12 digs. Kate Furnish also had a nice match with six kills, five aces and two blocks.

Also for the Blue Devils, Abigail Eagler had six kills and three aces, Ryleigh Davis had three aces, Brianna Woodring piled up 19 digs and Madeline Eagler assisted on 28 kills.

Blue Devils 2nd in match: Greencastle-Antrim had all seven players shoot between 81 and 87 to shoot 335 as a team in a Mid Penn Colonial match at Great Cove G.C. on Thursday afternoon, but Waynesboro had a little bit lower scoring and won by five strokes.

The Blue Devils’ Sydney Barnes fired an 86 to score the best round among the female players.

For Waynesboro, Tyler Fortney fired a 3-over par 75 to take medalist honors for the third straight time. Kellan Smith tied for 6th with an 82 and Evan Stein was eighth with 83.

Shippensburg’s top player was Mason Fogelsonger, who tied for third place with a score of 80. Jeffrey Iverson and Daniel Miller both shot 96 for James Buchanan.
