Chambersburg roundup: Volleyball edged 3-2 for 2nd time

Greencastle-Antrim 3, Chambersburg 2: For the second time in three days, the Trojans were defeated in five sets in a non-league match, this time to the county rival Blue Devils on Thursday evening at CASHS Field House.

The Trojans (0-2) started out strong, taking the first two sets, 25-18 and 25-19. But Greencastle (1-0) rolled through the final three sets, 25-22, 25-17 and 15-11.

“After we won the first two sets, Greencastle picked up their defensive intensity and we just couldn’t match that,” Chambersburg coach Ty Frelin said. “We struggled to regain the momentum and Greencastle kept us on out heels by serving tough.”

Sam Paetow was on point from the service line, scoring 23 points, and added 14 digs. Morgan Stockslager led in digs (17), had 11 points and seven kills.

At the net, Kaylie Hanna put down eight kills and six blocks, Addi Kegerreis piled up 13 kills and Cara Bratthauer had three blocks.

Also, Kate Etter had seven points, led with 21 assists and added 11 digs and Ashli Ganoe produced `13 kills.

Frelin said, “Great match, but we’ve got to figure out how to win the close matches.”

Chambersburg puts 3 in top 10: The Trojans played a match at Carlisle Barricks this week and three team members placed among the top 10 in the Mid Penn Conference meet.

Emily Rensch shot an 8-over par 80 to place second, just one stroke behind winner Brooke Graham of Boiling Springs. She played a consistent round, with one birdie on No. 14 and one double bogey (No. 18).

Emma Tolbert shot 92 to tie for fourth place. She birdied No. 7 on her way to a 42 on the front. Alaina Morris shot 102 and placed ninth, with one bad hole costing her several strokes. Cloe Fogelsonger placed 20th and Bridget Kemerer was 22nd.

Central Dauphin 9, Chambersburg 0: The Trojans dropped their season opener at Trojan Stadium to the defending Mid Penn Commonwealth champion Rams on Thursdya evening.
