G-A roundup: Jace Szaflarski stifles Bubblers, 2-0

Briggs Remenick

Greencastle-Antrim 2, Boiling Springs 0: Jace Szaflarski hurled a two-hit shutout to lead the Blue Devils to a Mid Penn Colonial home victory over the Bubblers on Monday afternoon.

Szaflarski did not walk a batter, hit one batter and racked up six strikeouts. G-A’s defense did not make an error. Szaflarski (6-1) threw only 75 pitches in the complete-game win and 56 were strikes. The Bubblers had two on and two outs in the fifth, but Szaflarski got the final out on a strikeout looking to quell the threat.

Greencastle (11-4, 9-3 MPC) scored both of its runs in the second inning off Boiling Springs pitcher Aidan Volz. Ethan Ford led off with a base hit to right field, followed by Darren Klin reaching when hit by a pitch. Briggs Remenick then bunted for a base hit that loaded the bases with no outs.

The first run scored when courtesy runner Jackson Eby scored on a pop-up to shortstop, and later Austin Wyand hit a fly ball to centerfield to plate Remenick.

Ford and Remenick each had two of the Blue Devils’ five hits and Wyand had the other, a double.
